If you’re on a budget but still want to honeymoon at a great property, here’s a hint – ask your travel agent about properties that have been recently bought out by other hotel chains. What happens when one hotel chain buys out another and takes over ownership is that the newly acquired properties are still under their all-inclusive contract from the old ownership. So while the new owners refurbish and rebrand, they can only charge the same lower rate until the original contract runs out.

For example, the NOW resorts have been bought by Dreams which is making them over into 5-star properties. Everything is getting upgraded and refurbished, and they look beautiful. But, instead of charging the going rate of $500 to $700/person for a 3-night stay, the rates are still under the old contract of $350/person. You basically get a 5-star property at a 50% discount if you book before that contract ends.

To find out about ownership transfers and their deals, you have to consult with a knowledgeable travel agent. That’s the trick. Good travel agents know what deals are going down, and remember, they shouldn’t charge you any fees for the research!
