Duchess Kate wore the Cartier Tiara today at her wedding to Prince William. This is was a complete surprise! No one was even guessing that she’d wear the Cartier. The Cartier was a gift for Queen Elizabeth’s 18th birthday from her parents, at the time holding the titles of Duke and Duchess of York. (Source: US Magazine)
Up until the moment reports of the tiara appeared online, it was speculated that the tiara was the Cambridge tiara that was on a long-term loan to the Princess Diana. It was thought the Cambridge tiara would also match her title. Looks like Kate and the Queen chose a tiara that had not yet had an iconic moment. The Cambridge will now forever be attached with Kate, it appears it has never before been worn in a royal wedding. We still don’t know whether the tiara is a short-term or long-term loan to Kate. It’s most likely a long-term loan, and this would mean that this will be Kate’s tiara on official occasions.
Kate’s tiara was not the only show-stopping accessory Kate wore today. This morning, her parents, the Middletons, presented Kate with a custom pair of drop diamond earrings. The earrings were inspired by the new Middleton Seal and featured an acorn motif. (Source: Vanity Fair)
We can’t discuss Kate’s accessories without mentioning her veil. Her veil was transparent, made of ivory tulle and trimmed with hand-embroidered flowers. (Source: US Magazine) The flowers on the veil are a nod to Kate’s country upbringing.
She followed the bridal tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. The Cartier tiara served as her something old and something borrowed. The earrings from her parents served as her something new. I wonder what she used for her something blue? I didn’t notice if she wore her engagement ring today.
People is reporting that Duchess Kate was styled by James Pryce and Richard Ward. (Source: People Magazine)
