Playing With Color: Pink

Playing With Color: Pink

If you’ve paid any attention to the runways and magazines, you know color is a hot trend for weddings.  Shades of pink and pops of gold are hot right now, and are perfect for any bride looking to add a fun twist to an elegant look.  Whether you choose a light, delicate hue or a dramatic fuchsia, your shimmering style is sure to make a big impact.

If pink is your primary wedding color, stop and consider what other major decisions you’ve already made with color.  Are your bridesmaid dresses pink?  Did you match pink ties for the groomsmen?  When it comes to color schemes, you want to go matchy-matchy.  Remember to get a swatch, so that your stones will also be the same shade and your look will live in harmony.

Balance is key — it’s the total Little Red Riding Hood effect.  Too much pink (or any color, for that matter) will overpower your look, and too little won’t have the impact you’d hoped for.  Consider the style of your gown and those of your bridesmaids when selecting your jewelry.  Asymmetrical gowns never get a necklace.  If you have a high neckline, choose earrings that hang closer to the ear.  Will your hair be down and flowing?  Choose a larger type of drop earring with hints of color.  An arm always looks bare walking down the aisle without a bangle, and this is an easy place to punch in some pink.

So, color is a key element.  Do you set it against silver or gold?  I love the warmth pink evokes against a gold, but don’t disregard your skin tone or the color of your gown.  For brides with warm skin, meaning a yellow or golden undertone, creamy white or peach, shades of gold are a beautiful alternative for traditional silver.  If your gown is ivory, antique finishes – gold or silver – are the way to go.

Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll be looking pretty in pink on your big day!
