Fashion Inspiration: Springtime Showers

I’m one of those obsessive shoppers who will take any opportunity to buy a new outfit. Going on a vacation? Time to shop. Bought tickets to a concert? Time to shop. Attending a bridal shower? Definitely time to shop.

I don’t have many chances to get dolled up in ordinary life, since party dresses would probably look out-of-place on my college campus (though I have been known to show up in vintage sundresses on occasion), but a springtime bridal shower would be the perfect excuse to put on something pretty and new. If you’re throwing or attending a bridal shower soon, here’s some seasonal inspiration from my favorite store, Topshop.

Cafe Brunch

I’m a complete coffee addict, so a relaxed, no-frills bridal shower at a cafe would be perfect for me. No cheesy games or prizes would be in sight – just a few friends, iced lattes, and maybe a cupcake or two.  To keep things casual, I’d tone down this lace dress with coffee-inspired neutrals and boyish oxford shoes.

Garden Tea Party

Tea parties are always popular for spring bridal showers – I even threw one for my sister last year! My outfit at that event drew inspiration from Alice in Wonderland, but if I were doing it over again this season, I’d be all about 1970s trends. Floppy hats and one-shoulder dresses are big in fashion right now, and this combination would look adorable at any outdoor affair (but skip the heels if you know you’ll be in the garden! Flats will make navigating the grass much easier!).

Lingerie Party

If you’re planning a lingerie-themed shower and you love dressing up, you might want to consider adding a fun vintage-inspired dress code for your guests. Any era could fit the bill, be it 1950s pin-up girls, 1920s flappers, or 1960s Mad Men style. My inspiration for this outfit was Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby, who might not be the most appropriate bridal role model…but hey, the girl had style!
