Wedding day

When Leslie and I started dating, I had no idea what Fantasy Frostings was, and no idea what the Wedding Industry was all about. Like the cautious man I am, I Googled both the Bakery and her. I was impressed, but since I had no intention of being involved, it was purely academic. My biggest concern was her unavailability on weekends. I never spared a thought about my pending unavailability.

The Cake Donkey

Soon, I found myself in the Bakery at 3:00am helping her applying pleats to a cake, and then hand painting it.  Leslie’s mother, Joyce was still working occasionally and she was with us that night. She was a little concerned that this ham handed lout was actually touching a cake, so she was watching me carefully. After Leslie almost smacked me in the head with a dowel numerous times, I threated to beat her with one if she actually hit me. Joyce laughed and laughed and I discovered later that this was my final exam and I was now a qualified Bakery assistant.

Years later I was promoted to Cake Donkey. This position entailed lifting all heavy objects, driving ever so carefully on cake deliveries and tramping up and down staircase after staircase carrying cake tiers.

Today, as a married Frosting, I find that my job description is whatever Leslie needs it to be at that moment.

Sure, I jest. It keeps me from the dreaded ugly cry.

Seriously, I love working with my Wife. We have a wonderful working relationship. We compliment each other by utilizing each other’s strengths and encouraging the other to help with our weaknesses. We know each other so well that we actually know when to shut up and let the other one talk.

We both recognize how lucky we are to have found a partner that appreciates all that we can do and helps with all we can’t.

Program Fans

If you are a bride that is having her dream wedding outdoors you may want to think about your guests and their comfort not to mention your own. A great way to help keep them cooler is by making or ordering a program fan. Also, you should provide a tent and bottled water if possible. They will appreciate your thoughfulness!

There are several cute ones availabe. If you would like to see some more options click here.

Seating Chart vs. Escort Cards

One of our recent brides decided to have us design her seating chart for her wedding reception instead of using escort cards to designate what table her guests would sit at.

It came out beautiful.  Which do you prefer ?

Choosing Your Wedding Colors – Case Study in PINK

I think choosing your wedding color scheme is one of the first things you need to do when planning a wedding.  So many other decisions stem from or branch off from your chosen color scheme.  For example, your bridesmaid dresses, the groomsmen attire, what colors your parents will wear to coordinate with the bridal party, what color your flowers will be, what color your favors will be, what color will be incorporated into your invitations and your cake.  Color alone can be a THEME for your wedding.

Make sure to pick a color you really like, both of you really like.  I can’t tell you how many weddings I’ve done where the bride loves pink and the groom says “I’m not wearing pink”.  There are ways around that, but the point is, you should be discussing these details together.  Most of the couples I’ve worked with where the bride loves pink and the groom does not have incorporated another color into the color scheme and the groom wears one of the other colors, like white, for example.

This groom wore white instead of pink

The bride and her bridesmaids carried various shades of pink flowers and the bridesmaids wore two different colored pink dresses.

She did carry the pink and white theme through out for the ceremony and reception.

Shades of Pink

By incorporating dark pink and white into the mix, this bride left options open for those who really didn’t want to wear the pale pink.

A Pink Themed Ceremony Site

From the ceremony site to the guest tables we incorporated various shades of pink and white flowers for a cohesive color design.

Guest Table Centerpieces

You can add interest to your table centerpieces by having some tall pieces and some short.  It is definitely more pleasing to the human eye to walk into a room and have to look up and down rather than at one height.  These centerpieces were identical other than half of them were elevated and half of them were placed directly on the table tops.

Notice how the table clothes are white, but the napkins are pale pink.  Also notice the favor boxes are white with a pink ribbon.  Everything ties together which is a beautiful thing!

You can accomplish the same effect using different colors, just remember to coordinate everything.  It is a lot easier to do when you use a few different, complimentary colors.

There are a couple of sites on the internet that help you do this, http://www.bridalcanvas.com/ is a site I love because it allows you to pull different pictures together into a collage type format so you can see how your ideas will work together.  Another great site to show you how to put colors together is http://www.colourlovers.com/, but it only works with Mac computers.

Having more than one color really opens up options for you and I would highly recommend using more than one single color.

This year I am seeing a lot of dark purple and blue being used as the main color scheme.  Both are fun colors to work with and almost any other color you can think of will coordinate with purple and blue.

Have fun and be creative and remember that whatever you choose will be in the pictures for the rest of your life.  So choose colors that will look good every time you see them again!

All photos are from my own library.

So what do you put in a bathroom basket?

It’s another question I get asked a lot by my brides so this will help you out. Hit up the dollar store by your house or if you are too busy you can order one from us all ready to go for $45 each. Let me know if you need one for your big day! Ok here are some suggestions of what to put in your baskets! Lintroller, wipes, tissue, bandaids, lotions, soaps, shout wipes, hair spray, mints/gum, comb, brush, bobby pins, eye makeup remover, swabs, mouthwash, dental floss, rolaids, advil, asprin, pantyliners, tampons, sewing kit, clear nail polish and more! You can even make one up for the Guy’s with many of the same items.
