The No-Play List

We booked a DJ. It came with both a sense of relief (everyone tells you the DJ will make or break the reception) and a sense of dread (OMG he could RUIN EVERYTHING!!!1!). Thankfully, our music dude came highly recommended by both venue and previous bride friends, so I feel pretty confident about the choice. He also took the time to explain that he would help us "design" our reception. It's going to be exactly what we want ... including exactly what we don't want.

The Fiance and I bonded early in our friendship over our similar taste in music. I guess you could say he had me the day I heard Death Cab from his dorm room. Music is in The Fiance's Top 3 Wedding Priority Checklist. We have a good idea of what we want played, but even clearer is the list of things we don't want.

No hip hop or rap. Sorry, Fergie Ferg, that means the Black Eyed Peas too. As much as I love my lovely lady lumps, I don't think Grandma wants to see anyone grinding on the dance floor. Pop hop or not, we're nixing the genre unless it's a specific song we want to hear.

No country. Our wedding is not the place to cry into your beer. Much to my sister's dismay, who lived in Texas for three years, but we're not fans ... not even Rascal Flatts or Tim McGraw. We're country music scrooges.

No corny "wedding" music. There will be no hokie pokies, no chicken dances, no slides or shuffles of any sort. They remind me too much of 8th grade Homecoming.

Some people love these things, but we're going for a different vibe. I think it will still be a pretty good party without these omissions.

What's on your no-play list?

I’m with you -- no chicken dance or anything too corny!

We haven't put ours together yet, but it will probably include quite a bit. However, we are telling our DJ not to take requests, more than likely.

And, we will have rap at our wedding - wouldn't be my wedding without it (you can thank my Dad for that, yes I said my Dad).

I love that your dad is a rap fan, Brit. AWESOME.
