DIY Gift Hankies

I'm not artsy ... or craftsy.

So when I discover DIY that I can actually do! I get excited! I mean really excited! I mean me stitching an M into a sleeping mask at one o'clock in the morning, just to see if I could do it.

Wait let me back up .... first, I saw this ....
on PDX Bride - My Oregon Wedding and I thought to myself, "Self! I must have this in my world! It is too perfect!" ... of course this precipitated a long chat between the two sides of my brain about how I am bad at artsy things and how maybe I don't need more projects??? But these concerns were clearly overwhelmed by the incredible cuteness and seeming simplicity of this DIY ... check the steps ...

Draw out your design with a pencil or water soluble pen.

Tighten on hoop. (Ok so I didn't actually do this, cause I don't have one of these and it still totally worked! ... but I might invest in one of these since it def makes it easier.)

Chain stitch along the design.
This is when panic set in for me, I don't know how to "chain stitch"! But PDX came to my rescue! She told me to just google a video of how to chain stitch! So smart! So simple! So brilliant. Here is the video I followed, but there are tons of them! So go explore.

And then of course there is the end result ....
How great are these? Let me answer that for you ... they are effin fantastic. You go check out the detailed instruction on PDX Bride's blog. And I will saunter on over to ebay and start shopping for hankies to embroider for everyone I have ever met!

I am so glad to see handkerchiefs come back into style. I bought some vintage hankies over the weekend. Our grandmothers would be proud!

These are so great! I'm planning on making some for my bridesmaid, but still looking for the right quote to use. After looking at your post I think I will also make some for the moms!

Thank you SO much for sharing this! I was hoping to do this for the mothers anyway, now I have a little more of an idea on how to approach it!
